Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Allison Easlon Moyers and I am a contemporary artist working and living in downtown Phoenix. I work with oil painting, mixed media, installation and video.

How did you get your start?

From an early age I was interested in the arts and I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil. I took art in high school and continued into college. In 2009 I spent a semester abroad studying French and art history before moving to Paris, France and continuing my artistic journey there. I went to a Preparatory school for a year in Paris before entering The Superior School of Art and Design of Valenciennes, France. I graduated with honors in 2015 and returned to the states with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts.

What inspires you?

I am greatly inspired by classic literature, poetry and film. My work is overtly feminine and romantic in nature and I explore themes of vanity, vice and excess within society. I am interested in color and its psychological association to the masculine and feminine muses in my work. My favorite film is a 1959 Rock Hudson/Doris Day duo entitled Pillow Talk. I am currently reading The Psychology of Color and anything by Laura Kasischke including her poetry. Some artists that have inspired my work include: Florine Stettheimer, Felix, Vallotton, Henry Darger, Sophie Calle, and Toulouse Lautrec.

What do you like about Arizona?

What I like about Arizona is the natural beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis. I love the inspiration that other artists get from the landscape and the region. When I first came to Phoenix I saw an expo featuring T.C. Cannon and I really loved his body of work and the history and culture behind it. I appreciate learning from artists that have a differing perspective and background than my own.

Where can we see your work?

I have work at Kamiposi Art Gallery in my home town of Odessa, Texas where I grew up and had my first solo show. I am currently in the process of getting pieces prepared for a new restaurant venue (to be announced) here in Phoenix. You can see my art online at allisoneaslonmoyersart.tumblr.com and on instagram as @thepoetthatpaints.

What would you like to accomplish before you die?

I try to live in the moment as much as I can and set realistic goals that can be accomplished in a step-by-step manner. My current dream-goal is to have a solo show at a venue that permits me to use the space however I please.

What is your mantra?

If I had a mantra it would probably be ‘to do what you love and others will love it too!’

~
