7 Hawt HipHop Videos

The Stakes
“Prophecy”

The Stakes don’t pull their punches on “Prophecy” and their video for the single adds to the power of that message. And, if you’re part of the band’s Phoenix hometown, make sure you’re at The Stakes’ 5 Year Anniversary at the Crescent Ballroom on February 2nd (more info here).

Ridgio
“I’m Better”

This rapper from Chicago is about to make all you “Just lookin’ for the right producer” emcees look foolish. Ridgio created this compelling a capella number about transcending one’s spiritual self from his girlfriend’s bedroom.  The music video for “I’m Better” feels equally innovative.

Michael Fang + Chigo Ace
“Now”

The stripped down style of this new single from Michael Fang and Chigo Ace might start off feeling a bit basic, but it will be your jam by the third refrain. And then it will stay in your head for a week. Good luck.

 My Son the Hurricane
“Birthday Cake”

A Canadian 14-piece brass band fronted by an emcee? Really, I don’t know what else needs to be said. My Son the Hurricane just completed a 7-month tour which is a bummer because it sounds like this band brings the party. If you missed the tour, like me, you can still score a copy of Is This What You Want? from the band through their website.

Grand Wa Zoo
“Panacea”

This UK group joined forces back in 2012 and, in the time since their inception, they’ve really been able to hone a fluid sound between the artists’ differing styles. “Panacea” from Grand Wa Zoo has a kickback beat and some weighty lyrics.

DeeZystep
“Once in a While”

This Bay Area rapper released his latest album, SURREALITY, last week which includes this single. “Once in a While” is about the burden of remaining upright when the world is beating you down.
