1. Who are you and what do you do?

Hugo Medina – Artist

hugo 022. How did you get your start?

From what I have been told by my family, I was about 5 years old when my parents entered me into my first art contest. It was when we were living in Bolivia. My older sister was doing this national contest and I insisted in participating, so my parents lied about my age, and got me into the contest. Ended up winning an honorable mention. Been doing it ever since.

3. What inspires you?

My daughters, my wife, my family, people, life.

4. What do you like about AZ?

It’s changing, it’s growing, an empty canvas for all of us to create on.

hugo 035. Where can we see you(r) work?

As of right now, I have approx 30 murals through out the valley, and slowly adding more. Other than that, when I do shows, or on my website (whenever I update it ).

6. What would you like to accomplish before you die?

Immortality…haha, my main goal in life is to make my girls proud, so all I really do is try and leave something behind they can be proud off. By my girls I mean my two daughters, my wife, my mom…etc.

7. What is your mantra?

When I run out of blue , I use red…actually that is from Picasso, I am not sure i have one, never give up, never surrender, and just keep painting, I guess. I always tell people when we are working on a mural not to worry when the paint drips, we can always clean it up, paint over it, or make it a part of the piece. It is better to try and fail, then not to try at all, does that work?
